Friday’s boys’ high school roundup: Episcopal Academy stuns La Salle; PC downs Coppell (Tx)

Host Episcopal Academy pulled off a stunning upset Friday night by defeating La Salle, 11-9, in a non-league boys’ lacrosse game as Shane Morrell had three goals and two assists and Sam Lawlor added two goals and three assists.

The Churchmen (2-0), ranked No 7 in the PA Media Rankings, raced to early leads of 4-0 and 5-1, but saw the No. 3 Explorers tie the game, 9-9, with a goal late in the third period.

But EA tallied the lone two goals of the final frame and received brilliant goaltending from Tyler Morrell (10 saves).

Tyler Odell and Morgan Westby each added two goals and an assist for the Churchmen while Garrett Walling and Ian Strain each scored once.

Sophomore Matt Rambo led La Salle with five goals while Jack Bogorowski and Sean Coleman each had two. Kevin Forster added two assists.

La Salle entered the game ranked No. 8 in the ESPN RISE Powerade Fab 50 and No. 9 in the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse Power Rankings. EA was No. 47 in the ESPN RISE poll.

Collegium Charter 7, Devon Prep 6

Bubba Arroyo, Timothy Clark and Daniel Andieson each scored twice to help Collegium Charter advance to today’s finals of the Devon Prep Ice Breaker Tournament at YSC Sports in Wayne.

Andrew Fletcher led the Tide with four goals and Ben Senss made nine saves.

Penn Charter 10, Coppell (Tx) 7“]

Tyler White erupted for five goals and added one assist while Shane Carr had three goals and two assists and Joey Sankey had a goal and two assists to lead the Qukers (2-0) to the win over the Texas power at St. Joseph’s University.

Jackson Tamasitis made 12 saves for PC. Coppell plays against Hatboro-Horsham today at 3 p.m. at Conestoga.

Downingtown East 12, Emmaus 11, OT

Brandon O’Connell (three goals, three assists) tallied the game-winning goal off a feed from Ryan Poole in overtime to lead the Cougars in their opener.

Aaron Murphy led Downingtown East with five goals and one assist. Dan Kinek led Emmaus with four goals.

Radnor 14, Owen J. Roberts 6

The Red Raiders outscored the Wildcats, 10-2, in the second half to earn the win.

Jeff Puckette had three goals and four assists for Radnor while Ben Junior scored three and Aex Manderack added a pair. Mike Barnes won 12 of 18 face-offs and scored once.

Also, Jake Shapiro was 7 of 7 on face-offs and Brendan Manderack made nine saves.

Kohl Batdorf scored twice for OJR.

Great Valley 13, Haverford HS 6

Eric Gartner had four goals and one assists and Greg Merrill added three goals and three assists for the Patriots in their win. Nick DiPiano added 11 saves in goal.

Upper Merion 8, Upper Dublin 7

Conor Crowe made 19 saves and Trevor Kupecky had a goal and four assists while Luc Minnich contributed two goals and an assist for the Vikings in the Suburban One American Conference contest.

Spring-Ford 16, Lower Merion 4

Paul Major scored six goals and Drew Thomas had a goal and four assists to lead the Rams to the easy win.

Pennsbury 8, Methacton 3

Evan Caterson had four goals for the Falcons.

Neshaminy 9, Conwell-Egan 1

Shane Quinn had two goals and three assists to lead the Redskins to a non-league victory.

Jimmy Roessener, Keenan Skeels, and Alex McKenzie each chipped in two goals and goalie Austin Marshall anchored the defense with 11 saves.
