Georgetown head coach Ricky Fried has added former Hoya standout Bunny O’Reilly (Springside School) to the staff for the 2011 season. O’Reilly will come on as a volunteer assistant coach, taking over for Stefanie Sparks, who was in the role for three seasons.

“Bunny has a great knowledge of the Georgetown system and brings a wealth of experience to the team,” said Fried. “Her familiarity with the program will make for a seamless transition and we will be looking to her to work with the younger players on a one-on-one basis.”

O’Reilly began her career as an attacker and moved to the midfield for her final season. She scored 44 career goals and posted 21 assists for 74 points. After moving into the midfield, she became more active on the defensive end as well with 47 ground balls, 33 caused turnovers and 40 draw controls. O’Reilly started in 49 of 61 games player in her career.

The Philadelphia, native is finishing up a master’s degree in Georgetown’s Public Policy Institute. She received her undergraduate degree in the spring of 2009.

Prior to Georgetown, O’Reilly was a three-sport athlete at Springside where she played lacrosse, soccer and squash. O’Reilly resides in Washington, D.C.

The Hoyas will open practice for the 2011 season next week. Georgetown will host Northwestern on March 5 at Multi-Sport Field.
