Calvin Hopkins (two assists), Ricky Jutkiewicz (one assist), Luke Matthews and Ryan McDonald each had two goals and Drew Sweetland made 15 saves as host Pennsbury edged Plymouth Whitemarsh, 10-9, in the first round of the District 1 tournament Tuesday.
The win vaults the 13th-seeded Falcons (13-6) into the second round Thursday at fourth-seeded Downingtown East, which received a bye. The 20th-seeded Colonials fnished 14-4 after winning their first Suburban One American Conference title.
Andrew Cox led PW with four goals and an assist and Craig Lowery added three goals and an assist while Nick Swift had two goals and one assist. Andrew Sabia made 14 saves in a solid effort.
Defensively, Pennsbury senior Dan Marr was a standout while face-off specialist Josh Caven was strong at the face-off X in the second half after PW’s Gryphin Kelly had a strong game in the first half.
The Falcons advanced to the second round of the District 1 playoffs for the third straight year.
