Rumson-Fair Haven (N.J.) rising senior midfielder Jack Curran has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Villanova University.
Curran helped the Bulldogs to a 15-4 record in 2011, and earned Honorable Mention All-State. Curran, who plays club lacrosse for Tri-State, is also on the Honor Roll.
Curran is planning to enter the Business School at Villanova.
“So many of my family members went there, and actually, my cousin is a basketball commit to Villanova,” he said. “Family has a big influence on my decision.
“I love the campus itself; it’s beautiful. Philadelphia is right around the corner and it’s an awesome city. The academics are excellent, and I love the tradition of camaraderie between students on campus and the tradition of Villanova itself.”
Curran will join a Wildcat team headed by coach Michael Corrado, who led Villanova (11-4) to the NCAA tournament and a Top 10 ranking for much of 2011. Corrado just finished his sixth season as the Villanova coach, and he has also won CAA and BIG EAST coach of the year honors in 2009 and 2010. Corrado, along with assistant head coach Simon Connor and assistant coach Andy German are all Villanova alumni.
I’ve been a big fan,” Curran said of the Villanova lacrosse program. “You’ve got to love when coach Corrado, coach Connor, and coach German are all Villanova alumni because they love the program.”
Curran and the Bulldogs saw victory in the postseason as well this year. Curran is happy with his team’s performance.
“We had a pretty successful year last year,” said Curran. “We won the Shore Conference championship, which we hadn’t done in five or six years. We made it to the semifinals of states, so we had a pretty successful year.”
“We lost the majority of our team this year to seniors graduating so we’re looking for underclassmen to step up this year and help us to be successful.”
