New Hope-Solebury senior defenseman Tommy Sutton has committed to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Pennsylvania.
Sutton was a key member of a New Hope-Solebury team that finished 9-7 in 2010. He plays club lacrosse for Twist.
Sutton, a member of the National Honor Society, plans to study Engineering at Penn.
“(Penn) had a very unique feel and I really felt a true campus, along with the energy of the city life,” said Sutton.
Penn is coached by second-year coach Mike Murphy. Other Philly seniors committed to Penn are Chris Hupfeldt (attackman) and Joe McCallion (face-off specialist/midfielder) from Haverford School, John Lopes (goaltender) from Conestoga, and Jeff Puckette (attackman) from Radnor.
Sutton said his goal for New Hope-Solebury is to win the first Bicentennial Athletic League championship and advance to the District 1 playoffs for the first time. He said the team has many key seniors and a good system under coach Pat Ryan.
The Lions figure to be a contender this year along with Holy Ghost Prep. Other leagues members are Delco Christian, Springfield-Montco and Devon Prep.
