Archmere Academy (DE) senior attackman Chris Thomson has made a commitment to play Division III lacrosse at Swarthmore College.
Thomson was a Third Team All-State pick in 2010 when he collected 29 goals and 47 assists (team record) for a squad that went 14-3 and fell to eventual state champion Tower Hill in the state quarterfinals. Thomson plays club lacrosse for Team 302.
Thomson, who also was Honorable Mention All-State pick in 2009 when he collected 30 goals and 31 assists, said he chose Swarthmore for its strong academic reputation.
“That was at the top of my college search – I was looking for the best academic school that would give me the chance to play lacrosse,” he said. “I visited and stayed overnight and went to the camp specifically for lacrosse. After spending some time on the campus, it felt like the right place.”
Thomson is undecided on a major, but said he likes Psychology.
The Auks should again be a state contender in 2011, Thomson believes.
“We are looking pretty good,” he said. “We’ve got our whole offense returning so we’re going to be very experienced there, as well as on defense. We lost our starting goalie, but we have a sophomore stepping in. I think we’ll be real strong.”
