Garnet Valley junior midfielder Ally Heavens has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Penn State University.
Heavens was a Second Team Central League pick last year for the Jaguars, who went 11-8 while placing fifth in the league and advancing to the District 1 tournament.
Heavens, who also plays for the Brandywine Majors Girls Lacrosse Club, considered Delaware and James Madison before choosing coach Missy Doherty’s Nittany Lions.
“I felt so comfortable around the coaches from the beginning,” said Heavens, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. “My heart was there right away. I love the atmosphere and the school spirit. It’s a big school; it resembles my school.”
Heavens plans to study a subject in a sports-related field, possibly sports broadcasting. Also varsity soccer and basketball player, she, may consider coaching as well.
Last year Heavens collected 21 goals, 10 assists, 20 draw controls, 18 groundballs and 32 caused turnovers. She said the Jaguars are hoping to contend in the Central League this year.
“I am really excited,” she said. “Most of my junior class friends are looking to go to college for lacrosse and we all really want to make a huge difference in the Central League and go to states. We really want to push ourselves.”
