Episcopal Academy junior midfielder Taylor Trimble has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Duke University.

Trimble helped the Churchwomen win the Inter-Ac League championship last year and then made a major splash by leading the Philly1 team to the team title at the US Lacrosse National Championship Tournament in late May when she was awarded the prestigious Heather Albert Award for the Most Outstanding Player.

Trimble also was a first-team US Lacrosse All-American and a first-team All-Inter-Ac League pick while earning Second Team All-Phillylacrosse.com.

Early in the summer, Trimble played on the Philly team that took a third in the Under Armour Underclassmen games. Later during the summer, Trimble was named among the top 15 Young Guns rising juniors in the Inside Lacrosse recruiting issue.

In 2009, Trimble collected 77 goals, 31 assists, 50 draw controls and 101 groundballs. She also played for the Phantastix Purple 2011 club team.

Trimble said she also considered Virginia, Penn, North Carolina, Georgetown, Northwestern and Princeton.

At Duke, Trimble will be coached by Haverford High graduate Kerstin Kimel, a 14-year coach who has led the Blue Devils to the national semifinals the past five years.

Trimble said one of the biggest attractions at Duke were the varied majors. She is intrigued by CAPE – College Athlete Pre-Medical Experience, a program only offered to female athletes.

“I was always interested in medicine,” said Trimble, who plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix. “I also will consider economics and languages.”

Trimble also was impressed with Kimel, a former U.S. Elite Team member who starred at Maryland where she was a two-time All-American and a national champion.

“I loved the coaches and the whole family aspect,” Trimble said. “They have great team chemistry. It didn’t feel like just a top lacrosse program. The girls were so welcoming to me and my mother. I have stayed in touch with some of them since my visit.

“I also loved the chapel. That’s what you see when you think of Duke. It reminded me of the Episcopal chapel. The campus is just gorgeous.”

Trimble, also a starter on the EA soccer team, wants to get a shot at winning a national title.

“One of things I told coach Kimel is that she has an incredible campus and an incredible school and that I want to win a national championship. There is so much spirit and tradition there.”

Trimble feels that same tradition at EA, which lost some key seniors this year but figures to again be a power this year.

“We did lose lot of strong seniors, but we have lot of returning underclassmen,” she said. “I have seen with the soccer team that just because you may be losing seniors, you never know who may step up. We’ll again be going for the league title.”
