Council Rock South's Taylor Hurwitz has committed to New Hampshire

Council Rock South rising senior goaltender Taylor Hurwitz has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at the University of New Hampshire.

Hurwitz was a co-captain and earned first-team All-Suburban One National Conference this year for the Golden Hawks. She plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix.

Hurwitz, who also considered Delaware, James Madison and Massachusetts, was impressed with UNH head coach Michael Daly and the players during her visits.

“I absolutely loved the coach,” she said. “When I went on my visit, all the girls were so nice, and I fit in perfectly. And the school is great academically. Everything led me there.”

Hurwitz is planning on majoring in legal studies in hopes of becoming a lawyer. She also may have a second major in communications or business.

Another drawing point for Hurwitz was the campus and nearby town of Durham.

“I love the campus,” she said. “Everything is kind of close, and everyone goes to the sporting events. They like to come out and watch lacrosse.”

Hurwitz will not be along at New Hampshire. Phantastix teammate Brooke McGillis (Conestoga) has committed to New Hampshire and Hurwitz is friends with Casey Doyle, a Council Rock North graduate who started as a freshman at defense this year at UNH.

Hurwitz, who played for the Philly team in the Under Armour Underclassmen Games last year and played for Philly 2 in the National Tournament this year, said she got thrown in the goalie position as a youngster and took it right away.

“When we were little, my older sister (Madison) was on the Phantastix and they had no goalie and they put me in there,” she said. “I used my dad’s hockey pads, and it kind of grew from there.

“I used to just stop shots with my body because I wasn’t good with the stick. I have been playing goalie ever since.”
