Conestoga senior midfielder Taylor King has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.

King helped the Pioneers finish 13-10 and reach the District 1 quarterfinals last year. King, who plays for the Phantastix club team, also played for the Philly team at the Under Armour Underclassmen Games.

An Honor roll student, King plans to major in Marketing.

“They have a great business program and I really like the coach (former Delaware mentor Denise Wescott),” said King. “She is experienced, and she has brought a lot to the program. I felt the size of the school and the campus was a perfect fit.”

King is the third Conestoga senior to commit to a Division I college. Midfielders Brooke McGillis (New Hampshire) and Allison Henry (William & Mary) committed earlier in the year.

King, who will be a captain in 2011, is confident the Pioneers will challenge for the Central League title next year.

“We had a new coach (Amy Orcutt) who turned the program around last year and we have a lot of new, young talent,” King said. “We have a bunch of rising sophomores and juniors, so there is a lot of new talent, so we’re hoping to build on that.”
