Wissahickon senior midfielder Jeff Gebert has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Susquehanna University.
Gebert had 36 goals, 20 assists and 61 groundballs for the Trojans last year, earning Suburban One American conference Honorable Mention. He has started at attack for the past three seasons, but will be playing at midfield this season. Gebert has also plays club lacrosse for Twist.
A four-year Honor Roll student, Gebert is heavily involved in community service projects through Wissahickon lacrosse. Gebert also is a Suburban One Scholar Athlete and a Susquehanna University Dean’s Scholarship recipient.
“Susquehanna has a beautiful campus and the athletic facilities are amazing,” said Gebert, who plans on majoring in either Finance or Global Management.
“Coach (Stewart) Moan is committed to building a first rate, highly competitive program, and I am excited to be a part of it.” Moan is entering his third season coaching at Susquehanna, and previously was an assistant at Villanova.
Last season the Trojans finished third in the Suburban One American Conference with an overall record of 10-8. This year, Gebert and his teammates have high expectations. Others from Wissahickon that have committed to college include junior long stick midfielder Beau Gomez (Navy), senior midfielder Jeff Frankenfield (Dickinson) and attackman Nick Lucchesi (Marywood).
“As a team, we feel like we can take the next step by being a true contender for the league title and advance to the playoffs as well,” Gebert said.
Gebert will be joined by Bishop Shanahan’s Jacob Farrell (defenseman) as Susquehanna recruits.
