Philadelphia Wings veteran goaltender Brandon Miller has been named the National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week after stopping 41 of 49 shots by the Boston Blazers and leading his team to a 12-8 victory over the Boston Blazers at the Wachovia Center last Saturday night.
Miller and the Wings (1-1) host the visiting Colorado Mammoth at the Wachovia Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.
“It was big for our whole team to get a win early in the season, particularly because we didn’t have an exhibition game,” said Miller. “Our performance proves what we have been working on in practice and what our coaches have been preaching can work when we put out an honest effort.”
Miller started the game strong posting 14 saves on 15 shots in the first quarter to allow the Wings to stay even with Boston early in the contest. Both teams exploded on the offensive end in the second quarter, but the second half belonged to Philadelphia and Miller. He allowed just one goal on 19 shots in the final two quarters, an astounding .947 save percentage.
