St. Joseph’s Prep will host Haverford School tonight at St. Joseph’s University (7:30) In a benefit game for the Kelly Rooney Foundation
St. Joe’s Prep, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness month and in support of the Foundation, will be wearing special jerseys under their game jerseys. Kelly Rooney, married to St. Joe’s Prep grad Sean Rooney, succumbed to breast cancer in July 2006 after a lengthy fight.
Haverford School players also will wear their “Checking for Cancer” shirts to show support. The “Checking for Cancer” shirts were made for a major invitational two weeks ago at Haverford School when 12 teams played to raise money and awareness for men’s cancers.
Tonight event also will feature a 50/50 raffle.
The Kelly Rooney Foundation has raised more than $500,000 for breast cancer treatment and awareness. Earlier this year, a girls’ benefit game was played for the Foundation between host Sacred Heart and Merion Mercy. Three Rooney daughters play on the Sacred Heart and Merion Mercy teams.
