Lindsey Mace scored five goals and visiting Springfield-Delco held off a late rally to defeat Archbishop Carroll, 12-11, today in a girls’ lacrosse regular season finale involving two teams ranked high in the PA Media Rankings.
The No. 1 Cougars, who have earned a share of the Central League title with Radnor and Strath Haven, improved to 16-1. No. 6 Carroll, the top-seeded team in the Catholic League, fell to 12-5.
Carroll led, 5-4, after one half, but the Cougars tallied six unanswered goals to open the second half. Shannon Burns (three goals) gave Springfield-Delco the 10-5 lead with 14:37 to play when the Patriots suddenly caught fire.
Twenty-nine seconds later, Hannah Schmitt (four goals) made it 10-6 and then Aimee Gennaro (three goals) cut the deficit to 10-7 52 seconds later. Schmitt scored again less than a minute later and Gennaro made it 10-9 with 9:01 to play.
