The Germantown Friends girls’ lacrosse team opened its season Wednesday by defeating Agnes Irwin, 15-12.
Iris Williamson and Betsy Sachs (six draw controls) led GFS with four goals and an assist each. Lyles Swift-farley added three goals and an assist.
Senior captain Lucy Rabinowitz also was key with three goals, an assist, three draw controls and four groundballs while directing the attack. Lilly Tyson had a goal, an assists and three groundballs. Lydie McKenzie and Annie Morrissey also were strong on groundballs and draw controls.
GFS seized an 8-6 halftime lead before Agnes Irwin tied it, 10-10. The Tigers’ defense (Alex Clarke, Isabella DiDio, Sierra Carter-Gordon and Izzy Jansen) clamped down in front of goalie Samie Francis (six of her eight saves in second half).
Senior captain Katie Nelligan (three assists) netted four goals for Agnes Irwin while Chloe Burch, Courtney Clower and Lauren Wilcox each tallied a pair of goals. Freshman Grace van Arkel had her first goal of the season and freshman goalie Lindsey Reder, had eight saves. Nadya Mason, formerly an attack player, helped solidify the defense.
