The Episcopal Academy and Archbishop Carroll girls’ lacrosse teams each lost a pair of games but fared well Saturday in the in 19th Annual St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School Spring Fling in Alexandria, Va.
EA (3-2) dropped games to Notre Dame Prep (MD), 14-7, and Loyola Academy (IL), 10-9.
Blake McHugh had two goals and three assists against Notre Dame (8-2), one of the to—ranked teams in the country last year. Taylor Trimble added two goals and two draw controls and Maggie Forker had five groundballs.
In the loss to Loyola, Trimble had four goals and four groundballs and McHugh added two goals and three assists.
Carroll also lost to Loyola by a goal, 11-10 and fell to Notre Dame Prep, 13-9.
“It was a great tournament and we played well,” said Carroll coach Lorraine Beers. “We were missing some girls who could not make the trip so we played a lot of sophomore and freshmen, but we were right with these teams.”
In the loss to Loyola, Carroll (1-3 overall) held a 10-9 lead with 24 seconds to play when Loyola won a draw control and scored about 14 seconds later. Loyola won the next draw controls and managed to score as the buzzer sounded.
Aimee Gennaro led the Patriots with four goals and Hannah Schmitt added three in the loss.
Against Notre Dame, Carroll fell behind, 7-4, at halftime and could not recover. Schmitt scored three goals and Gennaro, Hull and Margo Lesher each added a pair.
