Colin Keegan scored two goals and Austin Kaut made 15 saves to lead Springfield-Delco to a 5-1 victory over host Ridley Thursday, giving the Cougars at least a share of the Central League championship.
The Cougars, ranked No. 1 in the PA Media Rankings, improved to 9-1 in the league and 15-1 overall. They can clinch the crown outright at home Tuesday against Radnor.
Springfield-Delco seized a 3-0 halftime lead in this low-scoring affair and rode out the standout defense of Joe Addona and the excellence of Kaut in the goal. Jordan Demcher, Jesse Martin and Joe Venit also scored for the Cougars.
Ridley, which got a late goal from Jim Gormley, fell to 7-3 in the league and 10-5 overall.
“It was a big win for our squad today because we got a piece of the Central League title,” said Keegan. “Ridley is competitive and didn’t give up.”
Added Kaut: “It was huge win for us. We have watched Ridley on film and they give us a battle. Our defense defended well and (defended) so that I could see the shots. We play Radnor next Tuesday at our place so we are going to have practices Saturday, Sunday and Monday and hopefully come out with the win.”
