James Brennan scored the tying goal in the closing seconds of regulation and then notched the game-winner 1:30 into overtime, lifting Upper Merion to a dramatic 11-10 triumph over Great Valley in non-league boys’ lacrosse Wednesday.
Great Valley was leading, 8-4, at the end of three quarters. But the Vikes later drew within 10-9 and then with 12 seconds left to play, senior midfielder Brennan (three goals) won the face-off and dodged two defenders before scoring with 1.5 seconds left.
In overtime, Brennan again won face-off and forced a penalty, giving the Vikes a man-up situation. Freshman attack attackman Trevor Kupecky (one goal, four assists) looked to Nate Hare (five goals) and fed Brennan for the clincher.
Conor Crowe made 10 saves in goal for Upper Merion. Campbell Armstrong had four goals for Great Valley while Aaron Levinson and Eric Gartner each had two goals and one assist.
