PLA Golf Outing helps raise $17,000 for new lacrosse programs in Eastern Pennsylvania

Approximately $17,000 was raised to help build new lacrosse programs at the 18th annual Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Golf Outing Monday at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley.

brilliant sunny skies on the North course. Money raised will, among other things, support new lacrosse programs in Southeastern Pennsylvania and help underwrite the PLA’s joint initiatives with the Philadelphia School District in connection with the middle grades program and Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association-sanctioned lacrosse at the high school level.

Special guests at the event included Lee Stevens, Chair of US Lacrosse and Steve Stenersen, Executive Director of US Lacrosse, who congratulated the Philadelphia Chapter for its work promoting the game and for establishing a web site ( that has served as a portal for lacrosse in the area and as a model for other chapters around the country to emulate.

Mike French, owner of the Philadelphia Wings, participated in the event with John Mouradian, the Wings’ new general manager. They were joined by Wings players Max Seibald and Bill McGlone (Ridley). French and Scott Gabrielsen reported that 2011 should be a watershed year for the Wings, who are celebrating their 25th year by becoming locally owned and excited to become a fixture in the community.

Closet to the pin winners included Kevin Ryan (3rd hole), Paul DeLomba (8th hole – front pin), Chris Gabrielsen (8th hole – back pin), Mike Fontanell (11th hole) and Chris Bruder, who was eight inches away from winning a 2010 Range Rover on the 17 hole, courtesy of Main Line Jaguar/Range Rover in Wayne.

Longest drive winners were Dave “Boomer” Brumbaugh (4th hole) and Steve Demchyk (12th hole). Pat Growney, won the straightest drive context on the 5th hole. The event also featured an eagle 2 on the 10th hole, which was recorded by Steve Growney. The PLA wishes to thank all outing participants and its 63 sponsors and other contributors for a great event.
