Four Philly boys’ teams will play each other Saturday in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) quarterfinals at Harriton in a doubleheader featuring squads that played earlier this year.
At 2 p.m. District 1 champion Conestoga (21-2) will face District 11 champ Emmaus (16-7) while District 12 champ La Salle (19-2) faces District 1 runner-up Springfield-Delco (20-2) at 4 p.m.
Conestoga, which advanced by routing Hatboro-Horsham, 17-2, edged Emmaus, 5-4, back on April 10. The Pioneers have won 13 straight games and have outscored their opponents in the playoffs, 63-23.
Emmaus, the Lehigh Valley Conference champion, has won six straight games and advanced with a 12-11 triumph over Lower Merion. The Green Hornets were eliminated by Conestoga in last year’s quarterfinals, 9-4.
Springfield-Delco and La Salle met on May 1 when the Cougars earned a convincing 11-5 victory. The Central League champion Cougars advanced to the quarterfinals by downing Central Bucks East, 11-5, while the Catholic League champion Explorers rallied to defeat Abington, 11-10, in the first round. La Salle has won 10 straight games.
The winner of the Springfield-La Salle game will face the winner of the western battle between Seneca Valley (District 7 third-place finisher, 19-2) and Sewickley Academy (District 7 champion, 18-4) on Tuesday at a neutral site. Those teams meet at Hampton High in Allison Park (north of Pittsburgh) at 2 p.m.
The Conestoga-Emmaus winner takes on the survivor of Manheim Township (District 3 runner-up, 21-4) and Franklin Regional (District 7 runner-up, 10-11 That contest will be played at State College at 5 p.m.
