Joe Venit scored six goals and Springfield-Delco used a 4-0 surge early in the second half to break the game open as it claimed an 11-5 victory over Central Bucks East today at Harriton in the first round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) lacrosse playoffs.
The District 1 runner-up Cougars (20-2) will meet La Salle in the PIAA quarterfinals Saturday at a site and time to be determined. Springfield-Delco defeated La Salle, 11-5, on May 1. La Salle advanced by rallying past Abington, 11-10.
Senior midfielder Bobby Gildea added two goals and two assists for the Cougars while Jordan Demcher, Josh Cavanaugh and Colin Keegan each had one goal and one assist. Larry McLaughlin added one assist.
Springfield-Delco got another big effort from senior goalie Austin Kaut, who made 10 saves.
“The ‘D’ kept CB East from getting close shots, which is the key,” said Kaut, who credited his defensemen, Brendan Nave (PSU), Joe Addona (St. John’s) and Scott Parke (Neumann). “They do so much for us, keeping every offensive player locked down.”
Conor McSherry led CB East (16-5) with two goals, while Matt Brodzik, Alex Fetterman and Ben Auteri each had a goal.
