Manheim Township outscored Garnet Valley, 8-1, in the second half and earned a stunning 11-4 victory over the Jaguars Tuesday in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) boys’ lacrosse playoff game at Gov. Miffin High in Shillington.
The was the first for a District 3 team over a District 1 squad in PIAA play and advanced the Blue Streaks (21-4) into the quarterfinals against District 7 Franklin Regional at a site and time to be determined. Franklin Regional, the District 7 runner-up, handed Elizabethtown a 7-6 overtime win.
Garnet Valley, the third-place team from Disrict 1 closes its season at 17-6.
Brothers Quint and Chase Miller each scored three goals and Robby Wentz and Mark Stratton had two apiece for Manheim Township, the District 3 runner-up and a state semifinalist last year. the Blue Streaks tied the game, 3-3, with 2.7 seconds left in the opening half on a goal by Chase Miller and them ripped off five goals in the first five minutes of the second half.
Joseph Taulane got garnet Valley as close as 8-4 late in the third period on his second goal, but Manheim goalie Devin O’Grady (11 saves) was strong and the Streaks tallied the final three goals to salt the game.
