Twelve Philly girls have been selected to represent the region in the annual Jewish Maccabi Games in the U-16 lacrosse competition next week in Baltimore.

The JCC Maccabi Games are an Olympic-style sporting competition for teens aged 12 to 16. They are held each summer in North America and this year are being held in four locations in the United States: Baltimore, Denver, Omaha (Ne.) and Richmond (Va.).

The Philly lacrosse team is being coached by Eve Wilderman, a former player at Penn who has served as an assistant coach at Germantown Academy and Harriton. Last year she was head coach at Springfield-Montco Middle School.

The tourney, which begins Monday and runs through Thursday, features a 6-on-6 format with three midfielders, one attack, one defender and the goalie. The field is smaller. This is the first year lacrosse is being offered at the Maccabi Games.

Five teams will shoot for the gold, with two teams coming from Baltimore, one from South Jersey and a fifth combined squad from Allentown, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and San Diego.
