Officials have released the schedule as well as the times and field assignments for the 11th Annual Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival on Saturday, April 30 at Radnor High.
Twenty eight girls’ teams and 26 boys’ teams will compete on six different fields in an event that raises money for spinal cord research. The tourney honors the spirit of Radnor alumnus Katie Samson, who suffered a severe spinal cord injury in a sledding accident 10 years ago after leading Middlebury College (Conn.) to the NCAA Division III National championship.
The festival features most of the top teams from Philadelphia as well as several other top-rated clubs from the Mid-Atlantic region. Nine of the 10 teams that finished in both the final 2010 Boys’ and Girls’ PA Media Rankings will be competing. Also in the boys’ field are Delaware powers Salesianum School and Tatnall School, as well as New England prep power Brunswick School (Conn).
The marquee boys’ game will feature defending Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) boys’ champion Conestoga vs. Inter-Ac League co-champion Haverford School (1:30 p.m. on Prevost Field/football stadium). The two teams – already with a combined 27 players committed to Division I colleges – figure to be ranked among the top squads in the country.
One of the marquee girls’ matchups is two-time defending PIAA girls’ champion Radnor vs. Baltimore prep power Bryn Mawr School (2:15 p.m. on Enke Field/main turf field).
