From Press Releases
NXT Sports™ and Trashcan Lacrosse announce the debut of NXT Lacrosse, a new club lacrosse program for high school age boys’ lacrosse players that aims to immediately compete with the top club programs in the Philadelphia region.
NXT Lacrosse will begin competition in the Fall of 2010 and has already attracted a full roster of 28 committed players. NXT Lacrosse seeks to differentiate itself from other club programs through professional coaching, and by continually focusing on skill building and player development, not just on playing games.
NXT Lacrosse has hired former Episcopal Academy and University of Delaware standout and current Lower Merion assistant coach Marty Kupprion to serve as club director. In that role, Kupprion will direct all on-field activities for NXT Lacrosse.
Kupprion is a 2003 graduate of EA and was a member of the 2005 and 2007 Blue Hen teams that won the Colonial Athletic Association Championships and earned trips to the NCAA tournament. Aside from Lower Merion, Coach Kupp has also worked with the Trashcan U-15 and Duke’s Lacrosse 2 club teams.
Said NXT Sports CEO Andy Hayes, “The NXT Lacrosse club program is a natural addition to NXT’s Cradle Lacrosse and Trashcan Lacrosse camps for younger kids, as we now can offer a year-round training program for elite older players. NXT is also thrilled to attract a coach of Marty’s caliber to oversee the club program.”
NXT Lacrosse additionally features an excellent group of assistant coaches. Coach Kupp’s assistants include:
*Dan Altschuler – Assistant Coach at Lower Merion H.S., volunteer coach with Conestoga and Ashbee youth programs, former president of Philadelphia Lacrosse Association.
*Rob Forster – Head junior varsity coach at La Salle and former La Salle and Penn State standout.
*Dan Honeywell – Former Division I star at Lehigh University, and current Assistant Coach at Lower Merion.
*Brett Manney – Former Holy Ghost Prep three-sport standout, and Delaware lacrosse great, member of 2010 National Lacrosse League Champion Washington Stealth, now a member of Philadelphia Wings and volunteer assistant coach at Holy Ghost.
*Alex Smith – Member of 2010 world champion Team USA, former Delaware All-American, widely considered as preeminent face-off specialist in the sport.
