Midfielder Pat Heim (Conestoga) scored three goals to lead the visiting Boston Cannons to a 16-5 Major League Lacrosse win over Denver Saturday, clinching his team the No. 1 seed in the MLL championship weekend.
Boston is 8-3, while Denver falls to 7-4 with one games left in the schedule. The Championship Weekend is slated for Aug. 21-22 in Annapolis, Md.
Rookie defenseman Ken Clausen (Hill School) had three groundballs for Denver.
Long Island 16, Toronto 11
The host Lizards (6-5) clinched a playoff berth in Championship Weekend as goalie Drew Adams (Springfield-Delco) made 12 saves and Greg Gurenlian (Springfield-Delco) won 12 of 18 face-offs.
Chesapeake 20, Chicago 12
The host Bayhawks (5-6) clinched a playoff berth as Alex Smith (Univ. of Delaware) won 19 of 34 face-offs in her first game back from the FIL Championships.
