The Villanova men’s lacrosse team relied on a heavy group of underclassmen to claim a 15-12 victory over visiting Binghamton Tuesday.
Sophomores Michael Vigilante (three goals, one assist) and Kevin Cunningham (two goals, four assists) led the Wildcats with a combined 10 points while freshman Jack Rice added a hat trick. Will Casertano and Paul Webber each added two goals. Binghamton’s Matt Springer tied a school record with six goals in the non-conference defeat.
Navy 8, Lehigh 3
Freshman Dan Carr made 14 saves for the Mountain Hawks (1-2) in their Patriot League opener. Sophomore Cameron Lao-Gosney totaled two points for Lehigh, who falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the Patriot League following the loss, while Andy Warner registered five points for Navy as the Midshipmen even their record at 2-2 and move to 1-0 in league action.
Marist 11, Holy Cross 8
Colin McGeehin (Malvern Prep) scored three goals for Holy Cross (0-3) in a losing effort. Matt Francis won 11 of 18 face-offs and snared four groundballs for Marist (2-0).
Division III
Scranton 12, Ithaca 5
The University of Scranton made sure that Tim Marshall’s debut as head coach was a memorable one as the Royals broke open a close game by scoring the final seven goals to stun 12th-ranked Ithaca.
Scranton, which posted its first win ever over the Bombers in five tries, received five goals from sophomore midfielder Mike Rufo (Haverford School), and one apiece from freshman attackers Taylor Nelson (Downingtown East) and junior attacker Sean Coleman (Roman Catholic).
