Team Man-Up is hosting the second annual “Cuddle My Kids” boys’ lacrosse tournament Sunday at West Chester East
The event will feature three round robin games between three club teams (mostly 9th grade level) teams, Man-Up, Twist and HEADstrong. There also will be an elite high school girls’ game involving players from West Chester east, Villa Maria Academy, Henderson and Bishop Shanahan.
Proceeds from the tourney will go to Cuddle My Kids, a home-based non-profit that assists children directly affected by cancer. Man-Up is a club team whose mission is to help lacrosse coaches and families in need of assistance.
Scott Gabrielson, who along with his wife, Cathy, founded “Cuddle my Kids,” is a long time lacrosse player and now a coach.
The teams competing in the tourney are making donations, and man-Up players sold 270 Christmas wreaths to raise money. Twist players have found sponsors to donate money based on groundballs, goalie saves and goals scored.
Money is being raised from other lacrosse-related groups. The M&M Lacrosse Academy is donating money from its clinics and Lacrosse International is donating various resources. The trainers are donating their pay back and referees also are donating all or most of their pay back. Also, Penn’s Table Restaurant in West Chester is donating hot chocolate and the Yellow Dog Saloon is donating money as well as several more local businesses.
