The La Salle University women’s lacrosse team capped off its fall ball schedule last weekend with its seventh annual Alumnae Game.
Over the course of the fall, the Explorers participated in five tournaments, including one they hosted at McCarthy Stadium.
“We used the fall as a good measuring stick for season and I believe the team’s hard work will translate to success in the spring,” head lacrosse coach Candace Taglianetti (Haverford High) said. “The fall is also a time that we can get younger players some experience against top notch opponents.”
The fall slate included several exciting games against Adelphi, two-time Division II champions, Massachusetts, the reigning Atlantic 10 Champion, and Towson.
La Salle also faced off against local rivals Villanova, Drexel, Temple and St. Joe’s during the Philly 5 Tournament at Temple.
The team also participated in a special fund-raising tournament at Hofstra University in September. The second annual Nick Colleluori Women’s Lacrosse Classic raised over $42,000 for the Headstrong Foundation, which supports blood cancer research.
After focusing on its attack, as well as building its defense during the fall, La Salle will look forward to its season opener on February 19, 2011 against Delaware at McCarthy Stadium.
The Explorers went 9-7 last year, qualifying for the Atlantic-10 playoffs. the roster features 17 players from the Philly region.
