Maryland senior defenseman Brett Schmidt (Upper Dublin) earned a spot on the Atlantic Coast Conference Coaches’ Preseason All-Conference team as his terrapins were ranked third in the loop in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook.

Virginia was picked No. 1, followed by North Carolina. Duke, the defending national champion, is at No. 4. Each of the four ACC teams is ranked among the top six teams in the nation in the Inside Lacrosse poll.

Schmidt was a Third Team All-American last year for the Terps. Also from Philly, redshirt freshman goalie Niko Amato (La Salle), the Player of the Year in 2008, is fighting for the starting spot. Sophomore midfielder Owen Blye (Maryland) also will see plenty of time.

At Virginia, senior John Haldy (Haverford School) is a senior captain and key at midfield.

For North Carolina, freshman midfielder Ryan Creighton (Malvern Prep) may see time.

For Duke, sophomore goalie Dan Wigrizer (Haverford School) is a returning starter trying to keep his position. Sophomore defenseman Billy Conners (Malvern Prep) will be a key and freshman attackman Jordan Wolf (Lower Merion), the 2010 Co-Player of the Year, should also make an immediate impact.
