Grugan’s game-winner in OT lifts Rick’s to Millard P. Robinson championship in SLLSEPA

Casey Grugan scored his third goal of the game in overtime Tuesday night.as Rck’s Lacrosse Club defeated Spano Brothers, 9-8, in a thriller to claim the 2010 Millard P. Robinson Men’s Summer Lacrosse League of SE PA Championship at Radnor High School.

Matt Murray came up with a point-blank save.

Rick’s cleared the ball and went man-up on penalty after Spano Brothers were called for too-many-men-on-the-field. Rick’s Grugan stepped in on his defender and found the back of the net for the victory.

Meanwhile in the master’s championship, Laxevo/Shafer International defeated Team Harley, 11-4.

Spano Brothers scored the game’s first goal, but Rick’s tallied the next three to take a 3-1 lead. Spano Brothers drew within 3-2 on a goal with 10 seconds left in the period.

In the second quarter, goalkeepers Murray (20 saves) and Joe Donnelly (20 saves), shined making some great saves. Both only allowed two goals each in the frame and at halftime Rick’s was ahead 5-4.

Rick’s held its two-goal lead, at 7-5, heading into the final period, but Spano Brothers scored to cut the deficit to 7-6. Rick’s responded with a goal to gain back its two-goal advantage, but Spano Brothers tied it with two in the final two minutes of regulation.
