University of Connecticut head coach Katie Woods announced the signing of seven student-athletes that will be joining the program for the 2012 season.
Those student-athletes include Sara McBride (Malvern, Pa.), Emily Anderson (Killingworth, Conn.), Valerie Everett (Pasadena, Md.), Adriane Ghidotti (Columbus, Ohio), , Grace Presnick (Suffield, Conn.), Karaline Smith (Acton, Mass.) and Ashley Van Scyoc (Bel Air, Md.).
Ghidotti joins UConn as an attacker; McBride, Presnick, Anderson and Smith come in as midfielders; while Everett and Van Scyoc will be part of the Husky defense.
“I am very excited for the 2011 class, all seven student athletes have the competitiveness, athleticism and work ethic to take us to the next level,” Woods said. “They believe in UConn lacrosse and will be a huge part of the future of this program. We look forward to having them on campus next fall.”
McBride, who scored 91 goals as a junior at Great Valley High School, led her squad to an undefeated season and a Ches-Mont League title last season. Throughout her campaign at Great Valley she has been honored as a first team All-Ches-Mont League selection and an honorable mention All-League selection while earning the title of team captain.
As a junior at Haddam-Killingworth High School, Anderson led her team to the state tournament semifinals after recording 68 goals and 22 assists during the season. She was tabbed an Under Armour New England All-Star for her accomplishments. Anderson, a three-year letterwinner, is a two-time first team all-conference selection and has also earned team MVP honors.
Everett, a three-year letterwinner at Chesapeake High School, comes to UConn after earning All-County second team honors as a junior and has been named a scholar-athlete three times during her high school campaign. She has also played for the Maryland United Lacrosse Club Team for the past two years.
Ghidotti, who earned honorable mention All-America honors as a junior, led her team to a second place finish at the state tournament during 2010 with a 15-3 record. Following both her sophomore and junior seasons she was honored as a first team All-State, first team all-district and first team all-conference selection and has posted 111 goals and 37 assists throughout her high school career.
Presnick, who has been a two-year captain at Suffield High School, finished her sophomore and junior seasons as the team’s leading scorer, including a 56 goal tally during her junior campaign. Following her junior season she earned All-Conference and Super Junior honors.
Smith, a four-year letterwinner at Acton Boxborough High School, was tabbed as a Dual County League All-Star following her junior season and was named the team captain for her senior season. She is a member of the Eastern Lower New England #1 All Star Team and has played four years for the Mass Elite Club Lax program.
Van Scyoc joins the Huskies after playing defense for the Skywalkers Lacrosse club for the past several years. She also played field hockey at C. Milton Wright High School, where she was a 2010 All-State selection, team captain and team MVP, leading her team to the regional finals during the past two seasons.
