Sophomore Travis Schmidt scored four first period goals and three other Hornets added hat tricks Wednesday as top-seeded Emmaus jumped out to early lead and cruised past Parkland, 18-4, in the opener of the District 11 semifinals at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown.

Emmaus, the defending champs, improves to 14-7 and will meet second-seeded Allentown Central Catholic in Friday’s 7:30 p.m. championship game on the Hornets home turf at Memorial Field. ACC (19-3), with all three losses coming to Emmaus, dispatched sixth-seed Delaware Valley, 15-2, in the nightcap.

The Emmaus-Allentown winner will move on to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs, which begin Tuesday. Friday’s winner will meet the No. 5 team from District 1, either Lower Merion or Central Bucks East.

Dan Kinek, Tate Klidonas and Will Scott each added three goals and an assist in the win as Emmaus defeated the Trojans for the fourth time this season. Kinek, a junior, reached the 50-goal mark for the second straight season and also scored his 200th point of his career early in the first period as Emmaus scored nine goals in the first eight minutes of the game and jumped out to a commanding 11-1 lead.

Scott, headed to Division III Dickinson, eclipsed the 250-career point total in his four-year career with an assist and two goals in the first half.

Parkland, which ended its season as 11-8, was led by Kevin Reinert who scored two goals. Kurtis Kaunas and Colton Makovsky also added solo tallies for the Trojans who fell to Emmaus for the 10th straight time.
