District 1 playoffs continue today with eight boys’, girls’ second-round games today

District 1 play continues today with eight games in both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments as teams vie to advance to the quarterfinals and the shot at a state playoff berth in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association championships.

All girls’ games today begin at 4 p.m. while all of the boys’ games are at night except for one.

In the first round, three girls’ teams claimed victories over higher seeded teams – Harriton (21st), Bayard Rustin (19th) and Hatboro-Horsham (18th). Only one boys’ team with a lower seed – Avon Grove (18th) – won its first-round game.

The quarterfinals will be held Saturday at neutral sites. Two boys’ doubleheaders will be played at Harriton and Henderson while the four girls’ games will be played at West Chester East. Seven teams from each field will advance to the PIAA tourney.

Boys’ Games
Owen J. Roberts (16th seed) at Springfield-Delco (1st seed), 7 p.m.
Pennsbury (9th seed) at Hatboro-Horsham (8th seed), 7 p.m.
Penncrest (12th seed) at Garnet Valley (5th seed), 7:30
Downingtown West (13th seed) at Central Bucks East (4th seed), at CB West, 7 p.m.
Avon Grove (18th seed) at Abington (2nd seed), 7 pm.
Ridley (10th seed) at Radnor (7th seed), 7 p.m.
Lower Merion (11th seed) at Spring-Ford (6th seed), 7 p.m.
Downingtown East (14th seed) at Conestoga (3rd seed), 4 p.m.

Girls’ Games, all 4 p.m. starts
Wissahickon (16th seed) at Radnor (1st seed)
Conestoga (9th seed) at Upper Dublin (8th seed)
Harriton (21st seed) at Unionville (5th seed)
Abington (13th seed) at Strath Haven (4th seed)
Bayard Rustin (19th seed) at Springfield-Delco (3rd seed)
Merion Mercy (11th seed) at North Penn (6th seed)
Boyertown (10th seed) vs. Downingtown East (7th seed), at Downingtown West
Hatboro-Horsham (18th seed) at Great Valley (2nd seed)

District 11/2 Subregional boys’ playoffs

One team will advance to the PIAA championships from the District 11/2 subregional. Quarterfinals are slated for today. The schedule is as follows:

Quarterfinal round – Thursday, May 20
No.1 Emmaus receives a bye
No. 2 Allentown Central Catholic hosts No. 7 Nazareth, 3:30 p.m.
No. 3 Tunkhannock hosts No. 6 Delaware Valley
No. 4 Parkland hosts No. 5 Easton, 4 p.m.

Semifinals, Wednesday, May 26
at J. Birney Crum Stadium, Allentown, 5 p.m., 7 p.m.

Championship, Friday, May 28
at Emmaus, 7:30 p.m., following the District 11/2 girls’ title game
