Tyler Brooke had three goals and one assist and Ryan Buttenbaum won 16 of 19 face-offs and scored once to help Conestoga defeat Abington, 13-5, Tuesday in the District 1 boys’ lacrosse semifinals at Ridley.

The win lifted the defending champion and third-seeded Pioneers (19-2) into the finals against Central League rival Springfield-Delco, which outlasted Garnet Valley, 7-6, in four overtimes. Springfield beat out Conestoga for the league crown, dealing the Pioneers their only league loss, 4-3 in overtime on April 20.

Second-seeded Abington (19-2) had its 18-game win streak snapped and moves into the third-place game Thursday at Lower Merion (1:30 p.m.) against Garnet Valley. The Ghosts defeated Garnet Valley, 17-10, just 18 days ago in a regular-season contest.

Peter Bowers added two goals for Conestoga and Jason Klunder had a goal and two assists while Tanner Scott contributed a goal and six groundballs. Ryan Lord, Bradley Lord, Connor Frisina, Casey Ikeda and Billy Flatley each scored once and Brian Dailey scooped eight groundballs while Peter Zonino made nine saves

Matt Rambo had three goals and an assist for the Ghost while Rich Rambo scored twice and Jesse McGinley made 18 saves.

“We extended and put pressure on them, this gave the offense opportunities for transition goals,” said Conestoga coach Brian Samson. “Pete Zonino also had some saves that helped.”

Conestoga had 11 man up opportunities and converted on three.

“I wish we’d shoot a little better but their guy (McGinley) had a big game,” Samson said. “I am happy with the effort and we’re moving on.”
