Despite having only one player on the All-League team, defending champion Delaware was picked to win the Colonial Athletic Association title in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Coaches’ Preseason poll.

The Blue Hens feature preseason all-league defenseman Pat Dowling. Delaware also will rely heavily on senior Kevin Kaminski (Strath Haven) at midfield.

Perhaps the big news out of the league involves the two teams picked sixth (Penn State) and last (St. Joseph’s). Penn State introduces new coach Jeff Tambroni (formerly head coach at Cornell) and St. Joe’s is making its league debut after leaving the MAAC.

Hofstra was picked to finish second. The Pride is led by all-league long stick midfielder Adam Mojica (Springfield-Delco).

At No. 5 is Drexel. The Dragons are led by junior goalie and all-league pick Mark Manos (Salesianum School), a Third Team All-American last year; and junior all-league preseason defenseman Dana Wilber. Senior midfielder Kevin Stockel also was a preseason pick, but is reported to be out for the season with a knee injury.

From Philly, Drexel also expects to get a boost from sophomore attackman Brendan Glynn (St. Joseph’s Prep) at attack and sophomore Craig Owen (Haverford School) at midfield.

On defense, junior Brian Tueber (Penn Charter) returns for a third year as a starter while senior John Ciavarelli (Springfield-Delco) is fighting for a starting spot and junior Chris Walsh (Downingtown East) and redshirt freshman Tyler Houchins (La Salle) are candidates.

Penn State, the No. 6 pick, will look to junior atackman and preseason all-league pick Matt Mackrides (Malvern Prep) to lead the offense. Mackrides had 36 goals last year. Junior attackman Jack Forster (La Salle), beset by knee injuries his entire career, is expected to play a key role if he can return from another surgery.

At midfield, senior Colton Vosburgh (Unionville) is a returnee and sophomore Eric Davidheiser (Hill School) provides depth. Senior Matt Bernier (Malvern Prep) leads the defense while juniors Ryan McGarvey (Penn Charter) and Billy Davis (Conestoga) may start. Senior long stick midfielder Greg Brown (Central Bucks West) is also a key.

In goal, freshman Austin Kaut (Springfield-Delco), the Co-Player of the Year in 2010, is trying to win the job from sophomore Dave Baker (Haverford High).

St. Joe’s is picked for No. 7. The Hawks attack features senior Scott Cullinan (West Chester East) and junior Matt Dougherty (Conestoga). The midfield is led by sophomore Steve Dunn (Malvern Prep) and junior Bobby Hurley (St. Joseph’s Prep). The defense is led by seniors Keith Belson (Strath Haven) and Rob Saraceni (La Salle).

The Rankings:

1. Delaware
2. Hofstra
3. Towson
4. UMass
5. Drexel
6. Penn State
7. St. Joseph’s
