Melanie Sarcinello (Marple Newtown) and Taylor Ruland scored overtime goals to lift visiting La Salle University to a 13-11 Atlantic 10 victory today, clinching the school first league playoff berth.
La Salle and Temple had been tied for third in the Atlantic 10 coming into the game, with both teams looking to secure an A-10 Tournament berth.
La Salle is now 8-6 overall and 4-2 in the A-10.. Temple almost certainly needs to win its final regular season conference game against Saint Joseph’s (currently 0-5) on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to have a chance at the playoffs.
Stefany McKee led La Salle with five goals and Sarcinello had three goals and one assist while Lauren McDermott (North Penn) added two goals and one assist and Jill Davis (Ridley) had a goal and four assists. Megan Corliss (Archbishop Carroll) made seven saves in goal.
The A-10 Tournament is slated for April 23 and 25 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Sophomore Allison McWilliams (Avon Grove) and freshmen Kellee Pace (Chichester) and Stephany Parcell (Interboro) all scored two goals apiece for Temple, while senior Chelsea Rosiek (Wissahickon) notched one goal and two assists.
McWilliams sent the game into overtime with a goal in the final 45 seconds of regulation.
