Mesa Fresh 2012 placed second in the Tri-State National Tournament last weekend at the Mercer County Community College campus in New Jersey.
Facing its toughest competition of rising Junior teams from across the country, Mesa finished 2-2-1 in pool play and entered the playoff round as the No. 5 seed. In the playoffs, Mesa opened the first round by beating Bulldog Lacrosse Club (Conn.), 8-1, and then beat the No. 1 seed in the North Division, Denver Colorado All-Stars, 5-4, in sudden death overtime to reach the semifinals.
In the semifinal game, Mesa topped Rock Lacrosse from Baltimore, 7-0 with the opportunity to play once again against Laxachussetts (Mass.), a team it had beaten in overtime, 5-4, in pool play. In the National Final, after leading 3-2, Mesa fell behind, 4-3, and despite a furious attack on net in the last minute, was unable to rally.
This is the second year in a row that Mesa has finished as the runner-up in the National Tournament. Mesa finished the tournament with a record of 5-3-1 and now has a cumulative record of 45-8-1.
