The Black Bear Montco Under-13 team defeated PYLA Chesco Red, 8-3, Sunday in the finals of the Battle of Valley Forge held at Valley Forge Christian Academy.
It was the fifth and final game of the one-day event and both teams came into the championship game with identical 4-0 records. Off the initial face-off, Kohler Setley won it clean and set up a fast break goal by Michael Delvecchio.
That set the tone for the game and Black Bear never looked back, sprinting

to 4-1 lead at halftime. It was a hard fought game by both teams in the sweltering heat
BB Montco topped all four PYLA teams entered in the bracket: two from Chesco and one each from Delco and BuxMont, along with a victory over Kent Island, MD, to go 5-0. For the day, BB scored 58 goals while allowing just 17. The entire 22- player squad contributed in it’s first event as a team.
BB Montco 13 is coached by Dennis Sutterfield and Harvey Smith and is comprised mostly of players from the Collegeville Cougar and PV youth lacrosse programs.
