Kasey Beirnes scored four goals and Colin Doyle, Garrett Billings, Blaine Manning and Stephan Leblanc each had three as the host Toronto Rock defeated the Philadelphia Wings, 19-11, Friday in the National Lacrosse League.

Kim Squire, appearing in his first pro game in nearly four years, scored twice as the Rock improved to 4-1 in front of an Air Canada Centre crowd of 10,256.

Dan Teat (three assists) and Kyle Sweeney (Springfield-Delco) led the Wings (1-4) with two goals each. Kyle Wailes had a goal and four assists while Jason Crosbie had a goal and three assists. Kevin Huntley, Drew Westervelt, Bill McGlone (Ridley) and Mat Giles each had a goal and an assist and Geoff Snider won 22 of 31 face-offs and scooped 25 loose balls. Defenseman Taylor Wray (Lehigh men’s assistant coach) had an assist and nine loose balls.

Teat and Sweeney scored on the first two shots of the game on Toronto goalie Bob Watson but the Wings’ 2-0 lead quickly disappeared. By the end of the first quarter, Toronto was leading, 6-4, and had a 19-9 advantage in shots on goal. The Rock then took an 11-5 game into halftime and coasted the rest of the way.

The final shots-on-goal count was 58-43 in Toronto’s favor. On power plays, Toronto was 5-for-7 and Philadelphia was 1-for-3.

The Wings’ Max Seibald made his pro debut wearing No. 18.

The Wings’ scheduled game tonight against the Orlando Titans has been cancelled and will be replayed in April at a date to be determined.
