Ashbee A1 team claims title in SEPYLA boys’ tournament

Ashbee used balanced scoring, solid work at the face-off X and strong goaltending to earn a 12-10 victory over Moorestown (N.J.) as it captured the Southeastern Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association (SEPYLA) A1 championship last Sunday at the SPARK Complex at Upper Dublin.

Ashbee seized a 4-2 first-period lead and held a 10-6 edge after three quarters before staving off

Ashbee won 14 of 22 face-offs and got seven key saves from goalie Colin Reder. Tyler Haab led the Ashbee attack with four goals and two assists and Jeff Odiorne added three goals while Kevin McGeary had two goals and one assist.

Also for Ashbee, Connor Black and Scott Scheuerle each had a goal and an assist and and Grant Regillo scored once.

Moorestown had defeated Lower Bucks in the semifinals.

Ashbee reached the finals with a 9-5 victory in the semifinals over Central Bucks, the top-seeded team from the North Division. Ashbee led, 6-5, after three periods, and broke it open in the final quarter with three unanswered goals.

Ashbee controlled the face-offs by a 12-4 count. Scoring for Ashbee: Haab (3 goals), McGeary (2 goals, 1 assist), Scheuerle (1 goal, 1 assist), Odiorne (1 goal), Regillo (1 goal), and Henry Crochiere (1 goal). Reder was huge in goal, turning away many Central Bucks attempts.
