Malvern Prep senior defensemen Wes Pancoast has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Roanoke College.
Pancoast helped the Friars tie for the Inter-Ac League championship last year. He plays club lacrosse for HEADstrong Elite and last June competed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Showcase.
Pancoast will play at Roanoke for coach Bill Pilat, who led the Maroons to an 18-3 season, a national ranking of fifth and a berth in the NCAA quarterfinals in 2010.
“The school was a big part of it,” said Pancoast, who plans to study business. “It’s a a great setting. Plus, they have been very successful.”
Pancoast joins two other Malvern Prep seniors that have committed to Division III schools: midfielders Colin Farrell (Dickinson) and Matt Neeson (Denison).
Also, Friar seniors, Jack Morgenthaler (MF, Navy); TJ Hanzsche (ATT, Navy); Drew Kennedy (FO specialist, Johns Hopkins); Keith Dreyer (MF, Air Force); Mike Dougherty (ATT, St. Joseph’s); and Vince Travaglini (MF, Massachusetts); and juniors Eddie Morris (DEF, Johns Hopkins) and Jack Sheridan (DEF, Notre Dame) have committed to Division I colleges.
Pancoast said the team’s primary goal is winning the Inter-Ac League title.
“We definitely want to compete for the Inter-Ac (title), that’s our goal every year,” Pancoast said. “We also to win as many games as we can out of the league.”
