Agnes Irwin senior midfielder Lauren Willcox has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lehigh University.
Willcox helped was a Second Team Inter-Ac League pick in 2010 and was named the team’s Unsung Player for the Owls. She plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix and played on the Philly 3 team at the National Tournament in May.
Willcox plans to major in Biology and study pre-med.
“Lehigh had the perfect combination of academics and athletics and I love the campus,” she said. “The coaches are awesome and I really they are trying to build a wining program and I want to be part of a team on the rise.”
Lehigh is coached by Ursinus grad Jill Redfern and went 14-4 last year, bowing to Navy in the Patriot League championship game.
Willcox is the third Philly rising senior to commit to Lehigh; the others are Notre Dame midfielder Bree Buysee and Downingtown East attack/midfielder Emoly Solenberger.
Willcox believes Agnes Irwin – a youthful squad that went 5-10 last year under first-year coach Kirah Miles George – will improve in 2011.
“We are a young team, but I think we’ll continue to improve,” Willcox said.
