Taryn McKenna pumped in five goals and had two assists as the Villanova women’s lacrosse team opened its season Sunday by toppling Central Connecticut 13-5.
Carly Miller and Katie Stone each scored three goals for the Wildcats while Taylor Lucy added two goals and an assist. Maggie Langan made nine stops in the goal.
Notre Dame 14, Ohio State 11
Gabby Capuzzi (Archbishop Carroll) scored three goals and Kelly Haggerty (Unionville) added a goal and three assists for the Buckeyes (2-1).
Lehigh 11, Mount St. Mary’s 10
Allison Thomas (Conestoga) poured in four goals and added an assist and Sara MacIntyre (Agnes Irwin) scored once for the Engineers (2-0) in their overtime win. Breana Waraksa (Strath Haven) scored once for the Mount.
Denver 15, Duquesne 11
Freshman goalie Ashley Harman (Boyertown) made five saves and allowed only two goals while playing most of the second half as Denver improved to 3-2/
Fairfield 17, Monmouth 8
Megan Brennan (Archbishop Carroll) scored two goals and Monica Johnson (Archbishop Carroll) made 19 stops for Monmouth as it dropped its opener.
Hofstra 18, Iona 5
Courtney O’Connor (Abington) scored three goals and Maryann Miller (Ridley) added one as the Pride opened with an easy win.
Duke 18, William & Mary 11
Emma Hamm (Baldwin School) dished off two assists as the Blue Devils improved to 4-0. Emily Geary (Radnor) made 15 saves in goal for W&M (1-1).
Syracuse 18, California 2
Megan Mosenson (Great Valley) had two goals and two assists as the Oreangewomen moved to 3-0.
Men
Notre Dame 13, Penn State 8
Duncan Swezey (Hatboro-Horsham) scored once as the Fighting Irish improved to 2-0.
Jack Forster (La Salle) had two goals for the host Nittany Lions (0-2) while Rob Forster (La Salle) and Conrad Ridgway (La Salle) each had a goal and an assist, Colton Vosburgh (Unionville) had one goal and Chris Mulqueen (Downingtown East) had three assists. Drew Adams (Springfield-Delco) turned aside 15 shots.
