Villa Maria Academy senior attacker Kyrstin Mackrides has signed a letter of intent

to play at William and Mary.
Mackrides, an honorable mention All-American pick last year, said she had been familiar with the Williamsburg, Va., area for years and also attended lacrosse camp at William and Mary for two summers.
“I have always loved the location,” said Mackrides. “We’ve gone on vacation there plenty of times and it is so rich history and tradition.
“I love the campus. The academic reputation of the school drew me. Plus, it’s a great lacrosse program and the coaches were awesome.”
Mackrides said she felt comfortable with the Tribe head coach, Christine Halfpenny, and the rest of the W&M staff. She also was pleased to see the team is ranked near the Top 20 in many preseason polls.
What’s more, she said she is happy that some familiar Philly faces are on the team, including Tribe sophomore goalie Emily Geary (Radnor) and senior defender Lauren Coll (Archbishop Carroll).
Mackrides poured in 102 goals and added 54 assists last year for Villa Maria, helping the Hurricanes finish as champions of the Catholic Academies League with a 19-3 record. Mackrides was named second-team All-Phillylacrosse.com and is a member of the National Honor Society (4.0 GPA this year) and Latin Honor Society.
Mackrides is leaning toward studying something in the math field, but has not chosen a major. Looking to her final season at Villa Maria, her expectayions are high.
“I think we’re definitely going to be strong this year,” she said. “We have 13 returning seniors and we only lost four, so I think we can go very far.”
