Upper Darby graduate Brian O’Doherty has been named the assistant coach under head coach Leigh Pesko for the women’s lacrosse program at Rosemont College.
“I am looking forward to working with Coach Pesko,” said O’Doherty. “I’ll be helping her in recruiting goals and creating a new team through commitment and hard work. I am excited to get out on the field with the team and bring it success.”
O’Doherty will bring a strong lacrosse background to the program. He was a two-year letter winner at Upper Darby and went on to start for four years at Albright College.
After graduating from Albright, O’Doherty joined the Wilmington Woodpeckers, a competitive men’s lacrosse league in Delaware, of which he is still a member.
O’Doherty is also a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association certified official and officiates football and men’s lacrosse games in his spare time.
Currently, O’Doherty works as an admissions counselor in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Rosemont. He is pursuing his M.B.A. at Rosemont and looks to graduate in 2011.
The women’s lacrosse team will begin competing in the 2010 spring season after taking off two years due to low numbers. Its first game will be on Thursday, March 18 against Penn State Abington.
