Three Phlly girls teams reach Sweet 16 at U15 National Championships

Three Philadelphia girls’ teams advanced to the Championship Bracket Monday in the first day of action in the inaugural U.S. Lacrosse National U-15 Tournament at Cedar Lane Sports Park in Bel Air, Md.

The Phantastix White and Purple teams as well as the Wissahickon Lacrosse Club won or tied each of their Pool Play games in the 30-team girls’ tourney. Play continues today with round of 16 competition.

Wissahickon advanced in Pool E by downing Nor Cal Gold, 15-8, Fat Cat Lacrosse, 14-4, and GTLC 2013, 12-7. Wissahickon earned the second seed among the 16 teams in the championship round. Phantastix Purple moved on in Pool H by stopping Amherst Lacrosse, 14-2, NVYLL, 13-12, and Team Integrity, 10-9, to claim the sixth seed.

Also, the Phantastix White advanced in Pool G by defeating Upstate New York, 12-10, and Lax Maniax, 13-6, and tying Cardinal Lacrosse, 13-13, for the 10th seed.

The SEPA 2013 squad will play in consolations today after dropping two games and tying one against NESLL, 9-9. Meanwhile in boys’ play, Twist Lacrosse Club and PennStar will compete in the 32-team field beginning Wednesday.

Action in the boys’ tourney continues through Friday.
