St. Joseph’s tabbed for fifth in MAAC preseason men’s poll

Canisius College was picked to repeat as MAAC men’s champions in the 2009 preseason coaches poll.

     In addition, sophomore midfielder Adam Jones (Owen Sound, Ontario) was selected as the Preseason Player of the Year. Joining Jones on the All-MAAC Preseason Team is classmate Nick LoCoco (Cicero, N.Y.). The Griffs received 80 of a possible 81 points in the preseason poll. Providence (68 points), Siena (61) and VMI (47) rounded out the top four.

    St. Joseph’s University was selected as the No. 5 team with 44 points and Hawks senior defender Tom Wengenosky was a preseason all-conference pick. Wengenosky, a tri-captain, was a an All-MAAC second-team choice last year when he tied for the team lead in groundballs with 46.
