Scholastic wrap: Haverford School, Malvern Prep advance to Inter-Ac League finals

    Stephen Aitken, Joe O’Rourke, Zach Rego, Chris Hupfeldt and Will McNamara each scored two goals while defender Stocky Euler and midfielder Liam O’Connor earned Toyota Stars of the Game honors as Haverford School toppled Germantown Academy, 16-4, Friday in the inaugural Inter-Ac League tournament semifinals at Cabrini College.

    The win boosted the Fords (15-8) into the Inter-Ac finals Wednesday (7 p.m.) against Malvern Prep, which earned a hard-fought 8-6 triumph over Episcopal Academy in the other semifinal.

    Will Horrocks added a goal and two assists for Haverford while Euler, Matt Walters, Tom Shihadeh, Brendan McGrath and Bill Annesley each scored once. Grove Stewart contributed two assists.

    Haverford and Malvern Prep tied for the league title with 6-2 records.

    Beau Jones (two goals) was the Toyota Star of the Game for the Patriots, who finished the year 6-12.

Malvern Prep 8, Episcopal Academy 6

    Bobby Hill (midfield) and Wills Curley (goalie) earned Toyota Stars of the Game honos for the Friars (11-8), who advanced to the finals by topping the Churchmen (13-8). Matt Lerman (goaltender) was the Toyota Star of the Game for EA.

Roman Catholic 18, Archbishop Carroll 7

    Patrick Weiler scored five goals as the Cahillites (8-7) advanced to the Catholic League (District 12) semifinals. Roman Catholic, the No. 3 seed from the South Division will play the North’s top seed, La Salle, in the semifinals at Swarthmore College at a time to be determined.

La Salle 18, Archbishop Ryan 0

    The top-ranked Explorers (15-4) advanced to the Catholic League semifinals with the easy victory and will face Roman Catholic in the semifinals Monday at Swarthmore College.
