Scholastic wrap: Aitken leads Haverford School to 8-7 OT win over Lawrenceville; SJ Prep opens with easy win

Stephen Aitken had the game-tying goal with 1 minute, 30 seconds left in regulation and than the game-winner in overtime to lift Haverford School to an 8-7 victory over visiting Lawrenceville School (N.J.) today in non-league boys’ lacrosse.

Chris Hupfeldt added two goals for the Fords (5-2), ranked second in the PA Media Rankings. Will Horrocks had a goal and an assist and Brendan McGrath and JJ Newland each had a goal. Joe O’Rourke added one assist.

Lawrenceville was ranked No. 23 in the country by Inside Lacrosse heading into play.

St. Joseph’s Prep 14, Penn Charter 2

Brendan Glynn poured in five goals and Colin Fleming had three goals and three assists as The Prep surged to a 9-0 halftime lead and opened its season in style. Kenny Lankford added a pair of goals and Ian Correia, Cory Schuerle, Steve O’Hara and Nick Hansinger each had one.

Mike Zikoski (six saves) and Andrew Coyle (two saves) shared the goaltending duties. Tyler White and Steve McVeigh scored the PC goals.

Hun School 12, Hill School 7

PJ Mara scored three goals and Tyler Hines made 20 saves for Hill School, which dropped its Mid-Atlantic Prep League opener.

Emmaus 15, Central Catholic 1

Mic Debellis had four goals and an assist and Dan Kinek had three goals and two assist to help the Green Hornets (4-2, 3-0) cruise in their Lehigh Valley Conference contest.

Ryan Christiansen led the losing Bears with two goals and three groundballs.

Germantown Academy 8, Ply.-Whitemarsh 3

Andrew Sih and Connor Crump each scored two goals and Steve Oppenheimer made nine saves as the Patriots evened their record to 2-2 with the non-league win.

Devon Prep 5, Woodlynde School 3

Andrew Fletcher scored two goals to pace the Tide (4-2).  DP was up 4-3 late in the fourth quarter when Pete DeLong (two assists) took a pass from the defense on a fast break opportunity and hit a streaking Bob Bildner, who sealed the victory.

Also scoring for DP were Quinn White and James Meyer. Matt Gruchaz added an assist and Zac Chunglo was strong in goal with 10 saves. Matt Baldassano turned in a strong performance on defense

Pennsbury 17, Father Judge 1

Kenneth Warren scored four goals and Pete Sweetland had three as the Falcons (3-1) cruised to the non-league win.

Kate Henrich (two assists) and Olivia Mann each had four goals for GA (7-3) in its non-league win.  Steph LaMont added three tallies while Sidney Jacobs (one assist) had two and Maggie Ebbott (four assists) one for the Pats.

Callie Franci had four goals for The Hill while Joy Finnen scored two and Megan Kelly, Sarah Kendrick and Greta Witter had one apiece.

Archbishop Wood 16, St. Hubert 1

Aubrie Ahrens scored four goals and Jenn White had three to lead Wood (4-0 to the win. Alyssa Verrillo, Caitlyn McCartney, Alyssa Andress and Haley Ozcowlski each had two goals for the Vikings while Kelly McVan added one.

Kate Smart had three saves for Wood

Hatboro-Horsham 16, Upper Moreland 3

Lauren Purvis collected five goals and an assist and Sarah Tustin had four goals and an assist to help the Hatters cruised to the Suburban One American Conference win. Alisha Pagano netted two goals for UM and Sarah Baumgardner had seven saves.

Episcopal Academy 15, Springside School 4

Taylor Trimble (4g, 1a, 10 groundballs) and junior Avery Curley (3g, 3a, 10 groundballs) helped EA improve to 5-0 with a win in its Inter-Ac League opener.

Kelley Moore (2g) and Megan Spagnoloa (2g) also led the attack while Sammi Arbitman (1g), Alexa Buckley (1g, 6 groundballs), sophomore Blake McHugh (1g) and Kathryn Burke (1g) led the midfield. Strong defense was turned in by Kate Ivory (2 draw controls, 7 groundballs, 2 interceptions) and sophomore Maggie Forker (7 groundballs). Senior goalie Caitlin Powers was strong with 12 saves.

Emily Maher scored four goals and Jess Roy had three to lead Pennridge (5-0).
